On Tuesday, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association declared closure of more than 200 factories in Ashulia for an indefinite period following labour unrest.

After the factories reopened, no untoward incident was reported and the workers joined work peacefully, said Md. Atiqul Islam, President of BGMEA, the garment makers's platform.

At a meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday, Labour and Employment Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju and Home Minister MK Alamgir assured factory owners of security at Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital.

“We did not receive any complaints from the management of any factory at Ashulia after resumption of production. The production continued smoothly,” BGMEA chief Atiqul said.

“The workers will get overtime payment for working on a Friday, a weekend,” the apex trade body Chief added.
